Zones
Danger zones offer a challenge to experienced players and are optional.
- Where do I find zones?
- Open the map and look for coloured rectangles
- Hover over the rectangle for a description
- How do I know I'm in a zone?
A message will appear stating "Entering Zone".
Zone Loot
Special zombies you kill in dangerous zones have a chance of dropping Money Bundle (100) in their corpse inventory. The chance depends on zone difficulty, between 50 - 99%.
Killing zombies in zones also has a chance to drop loot caches. Hover over a zone on the map to see the types of caches available.
For a full list of the contents of each cache and the chance to get each item, please refer to #knowledge-archive > Zone caches explained on Discord.
Sprinters
Sprinters only appear in zones, hover over a zone on the map to see the chance of encountering them.
Special Zombies
Hover over a zone on the map to see a list of which special zombies appear there.
Undead (DotD Custom)
If you see a cast bar over one of these, knock it down and the cast is cancelled.

Berserker (purple)
Kill it near other zombies and 1-2 of them start sprinting, permanently. Clear the area before you kill it.
Amplifier (blue)
Doubles the health of everything around it when you get close.
Devourer (green)
Eats corpses to grow tougher, one that's been left alone is a much worse fight.
Screamer (red)
Screams and pulls the horde onto you, a dark red one is recharging.
Boss (gold)
All of the above, with eight times the health (very low spawn chance)
Mutants

Puker
- Vomits toward a targeted player every 30 seconds. The spray can hit multiple players, but it can be dodged.
- Vomit left on the ground attracts nearby zombies.
- Players hit by the vomit become Puked, causing zombies to follow them for up to 3 in-game hours.
- Wash your body to remove the effect early. (Make sure you wash your body. Not clothing)
Husk
- Takes reduced damage from firearms, except headshots.
- When it spots a player and begins closing in, it raises its arms to protect its head.
- Melee attacks are unaffected by this protection.
Skitter
- Always spawns as a crawler.
- Once it spots a player, it rushes toward them at extremely high speed.
- Attacks faster than vanilla crawlers.
Leaper
- Always spawns as a sprinter.
- Leaps toward a targeted player every 10 seconds. A successful hit knocks the player down, but the leap can be dodged.
- Can jump over fences and through windows much faster than ordinary zombies.
Wrecker
- Charges in a straight line toward a targeted player every 10 seconds, damaging and knocking down anyone caught in its path.
- If it hits an impassable object, it crashes and falls to the ground.
- If the object can be destroyed by zombies, the impact will break it.
Weeper
- Always spawns as a sprinter.
- Has extremely poor sight and hearing.
- Always spawns sitting in a Dormant state.
- While Dormant, it cries and causes nearby players to gain Panic. The closer you are, the stronger the effect.
- While Dormant, it takes no damage from player attacks.
- Once it detects a player or is attacked, it wakes up and becomes aggressive.
- Immune to critical hits and knockdowns.

Volatiles

At 00:00, Volatiles emerge and begin hunting throughout the night in designated zones (hover over a zone on the map, to see if Volatiles are mentioned). At 06:00, they return to their dark nests and go back to sleep.
Volatiles are faster, stronger, and far more dangerous than ordinary zombies. When they spot a player, they will sprint after them and attack at close range.
UV protection
Active purple UV lights can be used against Volatiles.
When a Volatile approaches a UV light, it will stop attacking, react in pain, and try to move away from the illuminated area.
UV light does not kill Volatiles. It only forces them back, creating a temporary safe zone.
Midnight scream
Although volatiles only appear in certain zones, the midnight scream alert plays globally.
