Failed checksum

From Dawn of the Dead Wiki

Guide · Troubleshooting

Kicked while logging in with Failed Checksum? Some of your game or mod files don't match the server's copies. There are two ways to fix it, and either one works.

Route 1: look yourself up

The quickest fix — and the only one that can tell you there is nothing to fix.

  1. Go to deadeyedotd.org/checksum
  2. Enter your SteamID or the name you play under.
  3. The page lists every file that failed, which mod each one belongs to, and exactly what to do about it.
Good to know
  • Just been kicked? It can take a minute before you show up.
  • A Steam profile link, STEAM_0:… or [U:1:…] works too.
  • Often the files you failed on are ones the server already ignores. The page tells you when that's the case — the kick was then something else, so try Connection problems.
  • The lookup runs in your browser: what you type is never sent anywhere.

Route 2: re-subscribe to the modpack

If you would rather not look anything up:

  1. In Steam, unsubscribe from all your Project Zomboid Workshop mods.
  2. Open the Dawn of the Dead B42 Modpack — Season 2 and use Subscribe allOverride all.
  3. Let Steam finish downloading before you launch the game.

Then: verify your game files

Whichever route you took, finish with this. It repairs files that downloaded badly.

  1. In your Steam Library, right-click Project Zomboid.
  2. Select Properties…Installed Files.
  3. Click Verify integrity of game files and let it finish.

Still kicked?

  • Work through the Universal Fix — its last stage is a full clean reinstall.
  • If the checksum page says you have no failures on record and you are still being kicked, that is worth reporting: open a ticket under Access Issues and say what the page told you.
